For as long as one can remember, the television animation series Pokémon has become a part of the lives of millions of children worldwide. Who would not remember Ash Ketchum and his gang of cute little Pocket Monsters, Pikachu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander? We saw the trend: from watching the series every night, to the release of the Trading Card Game. Children attend meets to “fight” their Pokémon, trading some with the monsters that they do not have in their deck. Some of the children even find it a good hobby to memorize all 151 first-generation Pocket Monsters.

What brought about this worldwide trend was the release of the Gameboy Game: Pokémon Red. This version came alongside the Blue version, and both are role-playing games (or RPGs) developed by GameFreak and published by Nintendo. Japan, being the birthplace of the Pokémon series, was the first country where it was released, followed shortly by the major continents: North America, Australia and Europe.

The setting of the gameplay takes place in the fictional Pallet Town in the region of Kanto. IN the beginning, you will be greeted by Professor Oak, who’s going to give you a little backgrounder in to the details of Pokémon. Then he’s going to ask for your name; using the controls, you’ll input the desired name you want for your character. He’ll then introduce you to his grandson, saying that he was your rival since you were little tykes; Professor Oak ridiculously forgets the name of his own grandson.

After introductions are made, you will find yourself in the house of your character, you’ll be meeting your mom, who’ll tell you that Professor Oak from next door is looking for you. However, after visiting asking random people and visiting his laboratory, Professor Oak is nowhere to be found. In this light, you must look for him across the town. Just as you are leaving town, though, he’ll call out to you and take you back to his laboratory.

In the laboratory, he’ll let you choose from among the Pokémon that he has left. His grandson-your rival-will also take one Pokémon after you choose yours. There are three Pokémon types you can choose from: Fire-type Charmander, Water-Type Squirtle, and Seed-type Bulbasaur. Whatever you choose, your rival will choose the one that will most likely defeat yours: if you choose Squirtle, he’ll select the Seed-type; if you choose Bulbasaur, he’ll pick the fire-type; and if you choose Charmander, he’ll take the Water-type. Before you leave the laboratory, you’ll have to fight with your rival to test your Pokémon.

With your very first battle, you can see the fight interface where you can first choose if you want to: 1) Fight; 2) Run; and 3) look into your Bag. If you run, then you lose the fight by default. If you fight, then you can choose from among the available skills that your Pokémon has.

After the game, you can go around and fight other trainers and gym leaders to become the best Pokémon trainer in the world.

Nintendo and Game Freak have always been able to intrigue and capture the interest of gamers. The Pokemon characters and games are now in the fourth generation. Pokemon Soulsilver is yet another example of the the magic of game software. You can spend hours and hours mastering the moves and characters of this role-playing game series. This particular RPG entrant in the Pokemon family is a redo of the Pokemon Silver that was launched by Game Boy Color in 1999.

Soulsilver was released in March of 2010 to high reviews. Pokemon HeartGold and Soulsilver are rated by Metacritic as the highest DS games ever. Selling records are also at the top of the mark. Famitsu, a Japanese magazine for gamers game these two games a 10 out of 10 rating in one review and a 9 out of 10 score in three additional reviews. The popularity and quality of the original Gold and Silver games has been retained by the creators.

The Pokewalker peripheral is bundled with the game. It is a pedometer that links to the DS game card through infrared signals. For those who are into techno gadgets, this is a good reason to invest in the game. The gadget is a new twist to the standard games in the Pokemon fourteen year series successes.

If you wonder what SoulSilver is all about, it’s not hard to play and become addicted to the concept. The point of the game is to become the world’s best Pokemon trainer. You can catch those with certain strengths and use them to exploit the weaknesses of other characters. The extensive quest to become the top trainer is filled with things to discover and battles to win. One appealing feature of this RPG is the ability to have any character follow you.

Some of the other positive features are only visible as a overall design. For example, the colors are brighter and more vivid. The 3-D characterization. Dozens of other games have been developed and marketed over the years, but not one has managed to hold onto the gamers like the Pokemon series.

The basis of this Pokemon series harks back to the original style of RPG created and popularized by the Japanese. The action features random battles and fights. Layered onto this action is the personal sense of power and control when you hunt down a rare Pokemon. You catch an exotic Pokemon and you will gain a feeling of accomplishment unmatched by other games. Pokemon Soulsilver is a welcome addition to your growing Pokemon collection.

There are quite a few similarities between Sapphire and previous games. The reviews for Sapphire and Ruby recognize the new features available that didn’t exist on previous Pokemon games. To date, Ruby and Sapphire are top sellers for the Game Boy Advance equipment. There have been more than thirteen million units sold.

The game is laid out from an overhead perspective. The main character is controlled by the player as in previous games. The purpose of the game action is to capture each and every Pokemon in the game. Additionally, the Elite Four must be defeated. This group is made up of Pokemon trainers in order to beat a criminal group trying to to master the region. Operational features haven’t changed much from earlier versions of the games.

What’s new with Sapphire? There are some new Pokemon abilities to test and use. Players can also enjoy double battles for more of a challenge. In these battles, opponents double up and fight two against two. This gives the players more interest to keep the action going. Because the double combat scenes are possible, there are some moves in the game that affect two or more characters at the same time.

The Sapphire game as played on Game Boy Advance has some interesting characteristics. Four players can enjoy action at the same time, as opposed to the previous maximum of two players. The games can be connected to an E-Reader for even more enjoyment.

New innate abilities are shared by all members of a certain Pokemon species. Sapphire also has changed by adding a feature called a nature. The nature of a certain species of Pokemon will vary within the species. Both natures and innate abilities make a difference in battle strength of a Pokemon. They don’t have a direct effect, but change the state of the Pokemon rather than the strength of the movements.

The statistic of Condition is another new feature introduced in Pokemon Sapphire. Condition is used to affect the outcome of Contests. These are a type of mini battle where participants compete in from of a judge. The Pokemon has a Condition and their moves have a separate Condition. Each of those factors is boosted through the use of Pokeblocks. This is a candy made from berries.

Overall, Pokemon Sapphire is another excellent addition to the Pokemon Gameboy games series. I highly recommend it; if you decide to give it a go, you’re definitely in for an exciting, thrilling, wild ride that you’ll never forget.

A decade later, and after constant pleading by the millions of worldwide fans of the series, GameFreak released Pokemon HeartGold for the Nintendo DS.

Game Play

Pokemon is a series that tends to stay true to its roots; after all, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. The formula that the series originally employed with the original games, Red and Blue, is still largely evident in the most recent iterations of the series. But one of the key features that stands out in Pokemon HeartGold is the addition of the PokeWalker, a device which really brings your Pokemon into the real world.

The PokeWalker is a real device that you clip onto your belt and is used like a pedometer. To take one of your Pokemon for a “walk”, you simply transfer the Pokemon to the PokeWalker and then clip the PokeWalker to yourself. Go for a run, jog, or walk, and the device will keep track of your movement, rewarding your Pokemon with experience points. You can actually level up your Pokemon this way, and you’ll also gain currency credits which can be used in-game to buy items or chances at catching rare Pokemon. This tool is invaluable for those for whom it’s important to complete their entire PokeDex.

While the PokeWalker brings your Pokemon into the real world, I’ll discuss more about what the game is like outside of the real world. HeartGold boasts a return of many parts of Kanto, including the popular Seafoam Islands, and additional areas have been added to Johto and Kanto. Game Freak seems to have made a concerted effort to really individualize the two regions and make them very robust. The result is an enchanting experience within two distinct realms of the game.

There are countless minor tweaks to HeartGold since the Gold version, including the ability to hear water when your character is near it, the Magnet train has evolved to a monorail, and roads between the two regions are much more grandeur. In addition, one of the most-demanded features of all time has been the ability to allow any of your Pokemon to walk with your character. This feature was first introduced in Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu edition when Pikachu was always automatically following your character. This feature has evolved quite a bit over time, as now you are allowed to choose any of the 493 Pokemon to follow you outside its PokeBall.

The touch screen has been utilized very effectively in Pokemon HeartGold. Navigating through your pack is extremely easy, as well as toggling your running shoes and using the PC. Game Freak has succeeded in making it intuitive and pleasant to use.

The popular Pokemon contests from Hoenn and Sinnoh have been replaced by the Pokethlon which is a combination of mini-games. But while the sound of mini-games might not intrigue you, they are actually quite a lot of fun. Game Freak ensured that a considerable amount of skill is required to complete them, which is refreshing for the series.

If you’re a fan of the series and own any of the GBA Pokemon games, you can use the Pal Pak to transfer Pokemon from those games into Pokemon HeartGold. This will also cause some new and rare Pokemon to appear in the wild, allowing you to complete your PokeDex.

Audio

The soundtrack from Pokemon HeartGold might be the best of any Pokemon game to date. Many tracks from the original have been remixed or rearranged, and some are brand new orchestrations. This is and always has been the type of music that will create memories and make you really fall in love with a game. Enchanting, magical, and powerful, the music of Pokemon HeartGold is simply unparalleled. If you want a dose of nostalgia, you can activate the classic tracks by finding an item in the game which will make them available to you.

Pokemon Heartgold is a timeless classic that ranks as one of the best–if not the best–Pokemon games of all time. Whether you’re a series fan or new to the series, you will find a breathtaking world awaiting you with a magical adventure that nobody should miss. Pokemon Heartgold is a peerless addition to the Pokemon series and should be bought by anyone who owns a Nintendo DS.

After the player selects his or her main character, they begin their quest to be the very best Pokemon master. In touch with the televised series, yellow version allows the pokemon trainer to begin with a Pikachu to accompany them on their journey throughout the Kanto region. To be the best of the best, the user must find every pokemon and add it to their Pokedex, along with defeating each legendary gym leaders. Eventually they must face off in a battle of epic proportions against the infamous Elite Four.

This game, in the long chain of the franchise, has the unique feature to posses the starter pokemon, Pikachu, following the trainer outside of its pokeball. The young trainer eventually meets many cameo characters from the animated show, like the rock gym leader Brock, and water master Misty. Along with many upgraded visuals and game enhancements to its predecessors, Yellow had mini games that allowed the trainer to play more with their Pikachu.

The Pokemon trainer from Pallet Town, the user’s home town, has the ultimate goal to become the greatest Pokemon Master in the land by collecting all eight badges and defeating the Elite Four. The main character has a rival who changes his pokemon in accordance to how the player chooses to play out their adventure. The player is also out to stop the horrible Team Rocket during their travels, as this organization seeks to use pokemon for evil.

This version takes many points from the widely viewed anime show to include in not only their gameplay, but in their story as well. The player gets to have a Pikachu to tag along on their quest and will meet many famous characters from said show. Jesse and James are the most infamous villains in the television show, and their appearance in the game almost makes the player feel like they are in the show themselves.

Pikachu is the most recognized monster in all of the Pokemon franchise, to the point where this cute creature has actually become the mascot of the pokemon realm. This game was the first in its series that allowed the monsters to stand and walk outside of their pokeballs during play. Pikachu’s adorable squeaking and animated emotions that are portrayed throughout the entire story makes this particular version quite memorable.

Pokemon, or Pocket Monsters, are here to stay in pop culture and for good reasons too. This franchise has been through much and still is able to come up and release more games without letting the series grow old and stale. Pokemon Yellow is an excellent game for all ages and anyone can find something to enjoy.

The world of pocket monsters, or Pokemon as it is more commonly referred to, has long been full of wonder and awe. The premise of the games is to give the player the ability to explore the lands in search of every creature, large and small. Equipped with nothing more than the Pokedex and a starter companion, all adventurers begin their journey to be the best in the handheld universe of Pokemon Diamond.

The game involves a few basic phases: exploring the world, capturing more pokemon, and becoming a pokemon master. The battle mechanics are quite simple, and players of all ages can become familiar and proficient in interacting with the world. During a vigorous battle with a wild, roaming monster, the creature’s health is reduced to minimal levels, and the user has the option of using one of several types of pokeballs to capture and recruit it to their side.

The Diamond version of the Pokemon series has seen mountains of innovation since the time of its predecessors. Thanks to the handheld system that the game is played on, many new and exciting features were included, such as touch screen controls. The most phenomenal upgrade from the originals is the ability to use Wi-Fi connections to interact with other pokemon trainers all over the world.

The main protagonist begins in his or her hometown where the local professor gives them their very first pokemon to take along on their great and fantastic journey. The trainer, as the main character is referred to, wants to be a Pokemon League Champion. To do this they must venture around the world and defeat all of the gym leaders and the Elite Four. Along the way, the trainer comes across and decides to stop the sinister organization called Team Galactic who wishes to use their monster for evil.

This particular version is the birth ground of quite a bit of legendary and exotic pokemon, all of which can be obtained via battles or trades. The most important in the Diamond version is the mighty steel dragon Dialga, the ruler of time. This titan of time has a long history of battles with the spatial pokemon Palkia, ruler of space.

Upon completing a certain quest within the game, the trainer is allowed access into a special building where he or she can play with other trainers, real life people who also own the pokemon game. This is the first time that players from anywhere on the globe could interact wirelessly. This ability shows further innovation in that the system on which the game is played supports a microphone for the users to speak to each other.

The Pokemon series has a long history of mystery and excitement, all of which are sewn together beautifully in the games and television shows. Each individual game, although similar to the others, have their own thrilling story to tell. Pokemon Diamond is a both great game for any aged soft or hard core players to own.

The final gem in this Pokemon game series, the Emerald version takes you on a great adventure that gives new challenges and some great additions that are not found in the Sapphire or Ruby. One of the really cool things about the new Pokemon Emerald is the added ability to use a wireless adapter to trade from all versions on the GBA. This feature allows you to move favorite Pokemon, Legendary Pokemon, and many of the other tools that you have found useful in other versions.

The graphics on the Emerald have been greatly improved. They are much more crisp and clear and do not have the trail that appears on some of the earlier versions. Packed with over 400 Pokemon to catch, you will find an efficient battle system that takes place in the Land of Hoem.

Team Aqua and Team Magma are heavily involved in the game and after waking their Pokemon a battle begins that the player must stop. The Battle Frontier contains 7 buildings that each contain a different style of battle, rental Pokemon, random rooms, tournaments and more. The Gym Leaders and Elites have been upgraded and a new gym leader has been added.

The 8 badges are earned as you move through each level using the skills that you learn and adding new techniques to your battle knowledge. Each level provides you with a specific goal and battle to fight. In addition, there are Johto Starters, contents, rare legendary Pokemon and Pokemon from other regions.

At the Pokemon Elite Championship Level, you will be able to take on the Elite Four and employ all of the methods, skills, techniques, and knowledge you have gained through the 8 badges. In Ever Grande City you will find a Sealed Chamber quest that will provide you with rare Pokemon to help you in your quest. At this level you will have the ability to select your route and move through level 35 of the Pokemon Emerald game.

Having played the other Pokemon games, I found that this one provided the most challenge and entertainment. It was especially fun to be able to trade versions and be able to breed Pokemon. Once you have made it to the Pokemon Day Care Center you can leave a male/female pair and might have an egg when you re-visit the center. This took a little practice and some reading on the Pokemon boards, but once you have developed a technique you can quickly increase your Pokemon. I quickly learned that breeding two different Pokemon could lead to unexpected results.

If you enjoy Pokemon, then Pokemon Emerald is a natural, and great next step in your gaming. It has enough changes and additions to make the game continue to be fun and challenging. For a beginner, there is plenty information on the Internet when you are starting that will provide the tips and tricks you need to move through the levels and earn your badges.

If you know a boy under the age of twelve, then you surely have heard of the great craze called Pokemon. It is hard to imagine a child of the male gender not be affected by this invention and not wanting to get his hands on one himself. Pokemon Pearl is a role-playing game developed by Nintendo that quickly became one of the most popular items available and truly is a hit among the crowd that it is meant for.

For those that have been living under a rock for the last decade or so, Pokemon are little characters that sort of resemble animals that come in cards and in video games. They can be traded one for the other and in the video games, the child is given the chance to act as their trainer and modify their behaviors to his liking.

In the Pearl version, there are a grand total of four hundred and ninety three characters, some of which can only be obtained through special trades or procedures, but most of which are readily available. The wide variety helps the child feel involved in the process and connected to the characters of his choosing.

While playing the game, the time of day and the day of the week are taken into consideration, so that as the player is involved, the screen can become darker as night sets and other similar special features that add to the realistic feel. The screen goes black and the surroundings light up to simulate the feeling of being in the dark.

There are a lot of different contents that the characters engage in during the game, such as a dance competition, where the child must get his player in tune with the music playing and the acting competition, where the fate of the players is at the mercy of a crowd full of an audience and judges.

Players can score points for being cute or cool and other character traits and their overall performance is judged by others on the screen. There are various things to feed to the Pokemon to enhance their performance, such as little baked goods made from berries which increase the positive qualities they possess.

The game is set in a fictional town based in Japan which is characterized by large, snow-covered mountains. The scenery is actually very detailed and impressive, with some features that are quite pretty. There are three main lakes in this village, which provide the opportunity for many water challenges and lake scenes in the virtual play. There are also the mountains, tunnels, and caves, all which create different adventures.

Overall, Pokemon Pearl has received rave reviews from those that have tried it out. It definitely engages the players and helps them to connect to the characters that are familiar to them from their trading cards. With the amount of hours that the average little boy can spend playing with a system like this, parents are happy to be able to get anything done around the house they want.

The concept behind these games is simply brilliant, perfect, in that sort of “simple genius” sort of way. It’s not that it’s some far out idea that happens to be brilliant, it’s just that it’s such a smart idea that it’s strange that it wasn’t capitalized on before Pokemon did it. It’s really pretty obvious, when you think about it.

The appeal? These games combine pretty much everything kids love. The most obvious aspect of this, the core of what these games are all about, is the fun of collecting. In real life, collecting can cost a lot of money, and it can turn you into a pack rat. In a video game, there’s room for as many items as you can find, and while you have to work for them in-game, they don’t cost you (okay, your parents) any money.

This results in gameplay that is addictive, which is integral for any game that hopes to bring players back again and again, but because of the work involved with earning what you want from the game, it’s the sort of addictive where you’ll want to take a break now and then. It’s fun work, but to “Catch’em All!” you’ll have to do a lot of hunting. Some games, a kid can sit down and play it sixteen hours a day if you let them, but Pokemon knows that you have to pace it out and make things tough or, 1: It gets boring because it’s all the same, and 2: It’s too easy to spend the whole day playing it.

Secondly, the games always have a really cool look, sound and feel to them. The game takes place in an atmosphere that feels friendly, but fascinating. For parents, this is a nice change of pace with so many violent games out there. There’s a sense of danger, which is integral to a good adventure game, but you know that all of the actual content in the game is something that a kid can play without asking you some tricky questions an hour later.

And third, the context. The Pokemon games always take place in a world that’s not much different from the player’s. They use a modern day setting, kids as the main characters, and the hero always seems to be from a town that’s not much different from the player’s. When the player names the character after themselves, they can easily see themselves in their video game counterpart’s shoes.

Really, if you want to make a game that appeals to kids, these are the three notes to hit, and this is why Pokemon has succeeded where so many knockoffs have failed.

So what does Ruby add to the mix? For starters: Double Battles! This allows the trainers to put not one, but two Pokemon into the ring to do battle. This is a lot of fun as you get to work out more complex strategies that you could never try with only one Pokemon at a time. Plus, if you have two favorites, you no longer have to choose one or the other!

Another cool added feature is the way that the game keeps track of real time. This affects the game tremendously. For example, berry plants will actually take real time to grow, tides will be affected by time of day and so on. This adds a whole other layer of depth to the atmosphere of the game.

And of course, as always, there are some new Pokemon to collect.

All in all, Pokemon Ruby, along with Pokemon Sapphire, is a worthwhile entry in the series, and one of the most fun so far.

This game differs from the previous version because new areas can be explored as well as the variety of Pokemon offered. People who like to play role playing games will enjoy this game because it too is a role playing game. Here is some more information on the game.

The game is set in a fictional place called Kanto. Kanto is a region where more regions are contained and also connected to it. It is connected to a region called Johto and inside Kanto, the two regions Saffron City and Pokemon Stadium are located. In reality, Kanto is in fact a region of Japan, but it is not connected to the other mentioned regions and does not contain the mentioned regions inside, making it a fictional version.

Players can travel through many regions and in each one they will find new things. For example, they will encounter different types of Pokemon as well as trainers and gym leaders. In order to reach certain regions, a player will have to make their character take a boat ride because they are located overseas. For example, a character must take a boat to reach a region called the Sevii Islands. This is an area that contains seven islands.

The plot of the game centers around a young boy who comes from a small town. He is the only playable character. The game begins with the boy venturing through a field alone after he learns from a researcher (Professor Oak), that the field contains wild Pokemon. He is also told by Professor Oak that doing such a thing can be very dangerous. After a few interactions in the laboratory with the professor, the boy is given a Pokemon and a Pokedex (a Pokemon encyclopedia). Professor Oak then asks the boy to go out and gather as much information as he can on different types of Pokemon. This is the point that sets the journey of the character.

In the game, the player must not only collect Pokemon, but must also collect badges by earning them. To do this, they must navigate through battle arenas called gyms. There, they will battle the gym leaders with their Pokemon. If they defeat the Pokemon of the gym leaders, they will earn a badge. There are eight badges in total to collect. Once all are collected, a player can take part in an even bigger battle arena called the Pokemon League.

Certain Pokemon are exclusive to this game. This means that only certain ones are able to be encountered in this specific version. They include Bellsprout, Misdreavus, Sandshrew, Mantine, Sneasel, Weepinbell, Remoraid, Muk, Marill, Kingler, Magmar, Pinsir, Staryu, Slowbro, Sandslash, Vulpix, and Slowpoke.

In this game, there are also Pokemon that players cannot acquire. Certain ones are not featured in the Leafgreen version. They include Wooper, Weezing, Qwilfish, Psyduck, Electabuzz, Ekans, Delibird, Skarmory, Seadra, Shellder, Oddish, Gloom, Scyther, Golduck, and Growlithe.

That was some information regarding the game Pokemon Leafgreen. It is a game ideal for those seeking a role playing game full of unique characters. It is an upgraded version of the simple green version.
